Painting a TV Stand – Help?
What kind of primer and paint should I use on my TV stand?
I’m painting a TV Stand that I got at Target. It’s black laminate veneer over particle plywood board stuff. It’s real cheap.
Anyway, I sanded the TV Stand, then washed it and let it dry. I then applied water based WHITE Kilz primer using a brush. Again, the TV stand is black. I want to paint it white. So, the 1st coat of Kilz white primer definitely isn’t hiding the black surface. I see the brush marks. I hate that. Should I switch to a sponger roller? Should I use white primer spray paint? How many coats of white kilz primer? I’m going to use white latex paint. Unfortunately, the part of the country I’m located you can’t use oil based primer or paints.
I’m also thinking about doing a decouapge on this as well.
Any tips?
If the black was shiny, maybe you should have lightly sanded it. If not, then just go ahead and use a 2nd coat of Kilz. Then it should be ok to paint.
I just painted 2 white formica nightstands. They were shiny with gold trim (blech), I didn’t sand, used 2 coats of Kilz and painted with a white latex interior satin enamel. I didn’t want gloss or semi-gloss. They turned out great, but it was white over white.
However, I think with 2 coats of Kilz, you won’t have any trouble painting it white.
I never use oil-based, and I paint furniture all the time.
Decoupage… sorry, the only experiences I have with it were all bad. But honestly, I think it was me!
