Why is an Olympic athlete’s body seen as a prerequisite for most male actors across the media spectrum ?
Whenever you see any male actor on TV or in a movie they seem to have a gymnasts body, no matter what role they are playing.
For me, it often reduces the believability of a performance.
Granted there are some human looking actors out there like Sam Rockwell and Edward Norton, but the majority of them look to have the bodies a gymnast would be jealous of.
Why is it seen as necessary in today’s society that a man be built like an NFL running back?
Is it not, in its own way, similar to the whole anorexic model fiasco?
For the same reason most of the women are fit. It’s the fantasy. Most people who want to see fat, unattractive and out of shape bodies can do so every day without even leaving their house. Entertainment sells the fantasy and that fantasy is for the most part, fit and attractive people.
