Can having hamsters as pets contribute to pulmonary fibrosis?
i read this in a website
” In a condition known as hypersensitivity pneumonitis, fibrosis of the lungs can develop following a heightened immune reaction to inhaled organic dusts or occupational chemicals. This condition most often results from inhaling dust contaminated with bacterial, fungal, or animal products. Examples include silo fillers disease and pigeon breeders lung disease”.
by cleaning their cage …dust flys all arround. I’ve seen this on tv and i need an example for a presentation.
is it possible for the disease to happen in the hamster case ?
Very unlikely. A lot of conditions would have to synchronize for there to be a snowball’s chance. And what disease do hamsters have that’s transferable to humans. You see, that’s the problem. Yes there a re few conditions that are caused by or aggravated by animals but the overall risk is so minimal it’s nothing to worry about.
God bless.
