Got Fired From Walgreens And Now I can’t get another job?
Ok let me start, back in February my sister came in and bought some items. Without telling me she switched tags (with clarence tags) on some candles and a “as seen on tv” product. when it came time to check her out, she pulled the tags off the shelf and put them on the product, so i price modify the items to the price on the tags, i looked at the tags and they said something about candles and a pet groomer (it was the pet zoomer thing) so i thought it was ok, and i gave her the employee discount. Three months later the LP guy came and fired me and made me sign a paper (which i wish i would never signed) saying that there going to put my name on a database and made me pay the $16.00 that i “Stole”. I’ve been trying to get a job everywhere and nobody will hire me due to walgreens putting the keyword “shoplifter” on my background…so can someone help me on what i should do?
No matter what “database”? Walgreens allegedly put “stole” on, that should not have any effect on you getting a job.
Each state has laws regarding what a former employer can say about a former employee in a reference. The majority of states have very strict guidelines that limit the information to the job title, duration of employment, and some salary range. Some states, like Illinois, allow anything to be said as long as it is true.
Companies like Walgreens who have stores in many different states, in order to avoid lawsuits, will have their corporate HR dept follow the strict guidelines. No matter what is in a database.
Former employees, in order to protect themselves from vengeful former supervisors or know-it-all co-workers, should only provide a future employer with the contact information for the corporate Human Resources department on the application.
Another way to protect yourself is not to tell all the details regarding why you were terminated, because it makes you look guilty of stealing.
