TV and video games have destroyed our children's musical potential
Does TV rot your brain? Unless you believe the Hulu ads, no, TV does not rot your brain, but it dumb down and destroy your potential as a human being? I think you could probably do that for an argument, But hey, why should I wait for you. I'll go ahead and make an argument for it. And why stop at TV? Let's throw in video games as well.
So, I am just to rant about today? Not really. I'm not really in a lot of ranting and I do not really have anything against television and video games in general, but I was like human society, particularly American society seems to not produce child prodigies think more. Consider a few of the most famous musical prodigies:
• Franz Liszt: Performing great gigs at the age of 11
• Samuel Barber: Attempt to write to 10 an opera at the age of
• Felix Mendelssohn: making public appearances at 9
• Frederic Chopin: Write Polonaises and concert at the age of 7 years.
• Wolfgang Mozart began the harpsichord at 3 and started composing at the age of 5
This People and many others had done more in her musical life of 18 years, when most of us will in our entire life to do … and these are just the musical prodigies.
The not so good old days:
How do you think about these people see the world they lived in. The infant mortality rate was high. Medicine was … well … the dark ages. Travel was very slow. Information was not readily available to people. And not many people had access to the necessary Tools to facilitate a child prodigy. In music, for example, you have not found a piano (or harpsichord) in each house or even most of the houses. Many children worked either in their home country or in a job. Despite these drawbacks the world was still produce miracles. I would imagine that there is much potential child prodigy who never achieved their potential through life's difficulties.
Living In The Land Of Plenty:
Today, much of the world, particularly the U.S., a very to live other places. No children have jobs and most of them do not even have many tasks at home. For example, children have time. Music and musical instruments are widely used and most Families have a musical instrument in their home. Thus children have access to instruments and music accessories . Education about music is widely available, either formal (schools and conservatories) or casual in private lessons, by video or over the Internet. Thus Children have access to information and education. The running speed is to the point that we can be almost anywhere on Earth within a single day. Thus, the children in the Situation, opportunities, no matter where they reside currently accessing.
What about all this time, all this stuff, and all the information that we do not produced more children than ever wonder?
Deflection – Escape – laziness
With all this opportunity, our children spend so much time vegging watching TV or working up blisters on your thumbs playing video games. Hours and hours spent per week, that could be learning and developing skills and knowledge are wasted away in activities with no real purpose or use. I can not give me with a passport. While growing up, I spent hours watching TV and was happy when I got to practice in more than two hours of piano in a week. It was not for lack of opportunity. The piano was far away from 10 yards in the living room and there was many notes in our house. I was just lazy.
We Can Turn It Around?
From what I've seen, I was par for the course. The Most children do not take much to develop outside of school. Then again, most parents do not push their children to grow either. Perhaps as parents we are to do in the idea that we want our children "have a childhood" caught or we do not want to push too hard because they do not like or they can fail. I have found in my life that most things I've most enjoyed a lot of effort to achieve and took the pressure of failure is what has me to grow and succeed be.
So, I invite children and parents. Turn off the TV and video games and do something productive. Parents, not afraid to push your children. It's ok if they fail, we all do, but help them to learn from the mistakes and teach them until they successfully continue. One day they will thank you … and you will be grateful be, partly because both her children successful and because they do not live your basement.
