Do you think that television has impacted presidential elections positively, negatively, or perhaps both?

Prior to the 1960′s, Americans had knowledge of their presidential candidates through the airwaves and radios and were able to base their opinions on only what they heard.

After the 1960′s, television brought a new dimension to presidential election as voters, for the first time, are able to see images of the men who they are voting for. Although this allows the voters to see their candidates give speeches on TV, often times people base their opinions solely on what they see as oppose to the real issues. Has television transformed presidential elections into a race of publicity rather than the issues?

I’d like to know what you think.

Definitely negatively, from what I have witnessed over the last few elections. For starters I don’t like being told who is going to be president before the race even starts. All I heard leading up to the primaries and caucuses were Olbama, Clinton, Romney, Mcain. Lets not forget about Rudy either. The thing I find most disturbing about TV and OUR elections is probably the way they pick and choose who they are going to cover. Ron Paul for instance is the largest private contribution receiver but you hear almost nothing about him. He was not even invited to that joke of a debate FOX news had before new Hampshire. That shows me right there that TV and politics are in bed together. If they don’t let every candidate that is running be heard then they should not let any of them. Ron Paul is a boat rocker but still a very legitimate and competent candidate. What does he have to do to get the same press as Rudy, who he has already beaten in Iowa and almost pulled it off again in New Hampshire. I love that I live in a country where I can vote for someone I believe in, not someone I am told to believe in. America is the greatest nation on earth because of our constitution and what it stands for and lately our politicians have been using it for toilet paper. Like the blimp says google Ron Paul
