Holiday Traditions Mean More To Home And Family
All across America home and family repeat their holiday traditions. Many homes observe practices that no other family shares. Lots of traditions are celebrated in a majority of homes across the country.
One of the biggest shared traditions is the huge shopping day after Thanksgiving. In our home everyone pitches in to make dinner and desserts. The men do all the dishes and stay up late. The women get to bed a reasonable hour to be at the store doors before the break of dawn.
The boys in our family gobble up food from the turkey day feast while enjoying college pigskin contests. There will be time to gift wrap the baby safety monitors, cuisinart food processor, and digital book reader before the wives return. My grand tradition is that all year long when I buy someone’s birthday gift I also select their Christmas gift. I am way ahead of the game.
It fact, it seems more like exercise. Another tradition with our family is cut back on the gym visits during the holidays season. Instead, we focus on life sports like biking, sledding, or bowling. That way the family is sharing their time having fun and still getting some good fitness time.
Every room is filled with food, laughter, and holiday songs throughout the season. A stream of friends and family, the sound of the player piano getting a workout, and lots of seasonal cheer on the rocks completes the scene. The children are being exposed to traditions that they will repeat with their kids one day. Hopefully, I will be at their house watching from a comfortable chair.
In the season of comfort and joy lots of us will attend special religious services. Many will go to a midnight service for a special worship. Folks will argue whether you should open your presents on Christmas day or do the night before so you can sleep in the next morning. Some will stay up debating whether or not you should leave a treat for the reindeer or just Santa Claus.
Christmas morning traditions may be lattes and Italian baked goods, hot chocolate and donuts, or a full blown farmers breakfast. There will be parades on tvs, decorative paper flying around the room, and lots of gift surprises. Whether your home is lit by a real wood burning fireplace or a video yule log the glowing faces will be the same everywhere.
