What Gothic Interior Design Might Look Like
Unless you have a daughter or a son who is a goth or are one yourself, you can only guess about how he might decorate his house or apartment. You can make a pretty good stab at it, though, judging from the clothes they wear.
Gothics love black. They wear black from head to toe and accent it with silver jewelry and the odd dab of blood red here and there. From that you can conclude that black is the color of choice in their living quarters as well. Surely the well-heeled goth would buy a gloss black dining room set and set a large silver or nickel-plated candelabra in the center of the table.
Naturally, their china set would also be black. Their silverware would be heavy silver and very ornate. They may even have antique silver. Just think about a old movie about Dracula and what the dining room in his castle was like and you get the idea.
That black color scheme would continue into the living room. Our well-heeled goth, who might be the lead guitar for a famous band, would have nothing but the best in his or her living room. The black leather couches and chairs would be the most sumptuous available. The coffee table would be hand-crafted, complete with gothic symbols shaped into its ornate metal frame. Only the television would be of minimalist design, but that’s only because nobody makes gothic style TVs.
The same color scheme, if that’s what you call it, would apply in the bedroom. If they didn’t have a black four poster bed, it would probably be a black full size loft bed.
The reason for the loft bed would be because they long to sleep hanging from the ceiling, like bats. Not being bats, however, and not having the power to change into them, they would settle for the next best option: to sleep close to the ceiling.
As subcultures go, the gothic subculture is one of the more interesting. Most people wrote it off as a fad, but it persists. You can find them in any major city in the United States, Europe and Japan. They have their own styles and they keep to themselves. Many people are intimidated by them, but really, outsiders don’t know the first thing about them.
The rumors about them abound. Some say they are part of a satanic cult. Others say they are nihilists. Believe it or not, you may have one working with you in your office. Many goths save their gothic styles for the weekends and wear regular clothes throughout the week.
The insides of their homes may not look at all like that envisioned here. In fact, most of them probably live with their families in middle class homes. It’s anybody’s guess. If nothing else, gothics are thought provoking. That alone makes it worth having them as neighbors, even if they never invite you over for dinner.
