How to Stream Netflix through A PS3?
Alright, I know most of you are going to laugh at my lack of technical prowess, but I am lost. My husband is currently deployed to Afghanistan and he is the one good at this type of thing. Basically, I already pay for Netflix and have a subscription.. My husband owns a PS3.. I’ve seen the adds that say you can stream Netflix through the PS3. Currently I stream them on my laptop and hook it up to the tv. I would love to be able to have my laptop free and watch my streamed Netflix… I need step by step directions to do this… and I literally mean step by step.. AS in ” Turn on the machine by pressing the little red circle button.”

I’m writing this with the presumption that you can operate the PS3 console (i.e. turn it on/off, eject discs) and use the internet on your laptop (obviously you can, since you posted this question).
Well, the first thing you have to do is go to the Netflix website (www.Netflix.com) and request that a “PS3 Netflix Streaming” disc be mailed to you. Since you already have a netflix subscription, this should be fairly easy. If you can not find the specifc link on the Netflix page, you should google “PS3 Netflix” and there should be a link within the first few results.
Once you have your disc (usually takes a couple of weeks; they’ll e-mail you when it’s on its way), you have to “register” your PS3 with Netflix. To do this, you need to put your Netflix PS3 disc into the system itself. Once the disc is in, scroll over to the “Video” heading on the PS3′s menu bar and select the Netflix icon. After a few seconds, a code will appear on the screen along with a website. Write the code down and then go to the website to enter the code. This part is kind of tricky because both your PS3 and your laptop/PC have to be connected to the internet. Hopefully you have a router or some other device that allows your CPU and PS3 to connect to the internet simultaneously. If you do have a router, all you need to be sure of is that both the PS3 and the laptop are connecting., i.e. you can use the internet on both simultaneously.
Once you have both connected, enter the code at the site provided on the disc. After a few minutes, your PS3 will be registered and you will be able to watch streaming movies on your PS3. The instant play queue that you make for streaming to your computer is the same one that is used for the PS3.
You need to insert the disc into the PS3 everytime you want to watch a streaming movie. Once the disk boots up, it will automatically take you to your “Instant Play” queue, from which you can select and play the movie that you want to watch.
I tried to be as detailed as possible given my prior presumption (that you can work a computer and the PS3 independently). Hopefully this works for you and even more hopefully, you have a router installed in your house (it’ll be the box that the internet hooks in to; it usually hooks into a phone jack; if you have a wireless connection already set-up for your PS3 and laptop, you “should” be okay).
